On November 3, 2025, the 18th China-Latin America Business Summit, jointly organized by the Western Returned Scholars Association (WRSA) Spain-Portugal-Latin America Branch and the China-Latin America Business Council, was held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The summit focused on deepening China-Latin America economic and trade cooperation and seizing opportunities for industrial innovation, injecting strong momentum into the flow of cross-regional innovation elements and the integration of industrial chains. Ren Xiang, Chairman of the China-UK Science and Technology Innovation Platform, Director and Deputy Secretary-General of the Henan WRSA, and Vice President of the Zhengzhou WRSA, was invited to attend. He represented the platform in in-depth dialogue between Chinese and Latin American business communities, building bridges for intercontinental cooperation with an international perspective.
As an international science and technology innovation cooperation hub rooted in Henan and connecting the world, the platform's participation in this summit was of profound significance. The summit's proposal to deepen innovation cooperation in areas such as agricultural technology, equipment manufacturing, and the digital economy aligns perfectly with the platform's core focus on biomedicine, digital technology, and smart agriculture. During the summit, Chairman Ren Xiang engaged in in-depth exchanges with representatives of enterprises and chambers of commerce from China and Latin America, showcasing Henan's favorable ecosystem for open innovation and laying a solid foundation for the platform to connect with high-quality resources in China and Latin America and expand cooperation in third-party markets. This participation is a concrete practice of the platform's response to the "15th Five-Year Plan" for open cooperation, and an important measure to promote the integration of the Central Plains region into the global innovation network, helping Zhengzhou to become a core hub for China-Latin America economic and trade cooperation.
Since its establishment in Henan in 2018, the China-UK Science and Technology Innovation Platform has built a development strategy of "one platform, two centers, three elements, and multiple industries," creating a "1+1+N" innovation incubation and acceleration model. In the biomedical field, it has built a nearly 3,000-square-meter China-UK biomedical innovation shared accelerator, possessing a GMP-compliant cell laboratory with complete cell technology R&D and clinical translation capabilities. In the digital economy field, it has created the Central Plains Science and Technology City Digital Economy Talent Training and Industrial Innovation Base. In the field of artificial intelligence, it jointly operates the Microsoft "Cloud and Mobile Technology Incubation Program"—the Central Plains Longzihu Digital Economy Entrepreneurship and Innovation Incubation Center—with Microsoft China. Simultaneously, it has established the China-UK International Technology Transfer Center and the UK Offshore Innovation Center, establishing stable cooperation with more than 20 top UK institutions, and cumulatively promoting the implementation of more than 30 international innovation projects.
Based on this summit, the platform continues to promote the precise matching of high-quality technologies from China and the UK with the market demands of China and Latin America, cultivating cross-regional innovation consortia. In the future, the platform will continue to strive towards its vision of "creating a benchmark for Sino-British scientific and technological cooperation and building a leading domestic and internationally renowned industrial innovation hub," facilitating the smooth flow of domestic and international dual circulation, and contributing even more to high-quality regional development and global innovation cooperation!
